Ovarian Function Decline, Elevated FSH and Low AMH, Ovarian Aging. and Polyphenols

Ovarian Function Decline, Elevated FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) and Low
AMH (Antimullerian Hormone), Ovarian Aging.
The ovaries are the first organs to be affected by aging in the human body, affecting both fertility and overall health.

With the development of technology, the average life expectancy of women continues to increase, exceeding 80 years in developed countries. However, reproductive aging in women occurs around the age of 35, when their bodies are still robust in terms of other physiological functions besides reproduction. This not only leads to fertility problems, but also triggers various health problems in women. According to studies, the decline in female fertility begins around the late 20s to early 30s and accelerates after the age of 35, especially among nulliparous women, so fertility declines with increasing age.

Ovarian aging is caused by mechanisms such as mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, telomere shortening, microtubule disruption, and DNA damage. Intervention strategies include antioxidant and mitochondrial-targeted therapies, antioxidant hormone regulation, and fertility preservation techniques such as egg cryopreservation. While there is no cure to reverse aging, these strategies aim to preserve ovarian function and extend reproductive lifespan.

Premature Ovarian Failure (POF), Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI)

Diminished Ovarian Reserved DOR.
It is considered the Syndrome that today with the latest diagnostic criteria is characterized by primary or secondary amenorrhea or oligomenorrhea >4 months with onset before the age of 40 years, increased follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) 25IU/L in 2 tests at an interval of >4 weeks. The estradiol level is low and the anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels are usually collapsed. The incidence of POI varies among ethnic groups around the world, and studies show an incidence ranging from 1% to 5.5%. If not treated promptly, women living with POI face the short- and long- term consequences of prolonged hypoestrogenism and can experience symptoms such as lack of libido, vaginal dryness, mood disorders, increased cardiovascular risk, and cognitive impairment.

In the last five years, significant studies have been conducted on the effectiveness of natural polyphenols, in the management of women with decreased ovarian function, elevated FSH, low AMH, ovarian aging, premature ovarian failure

1. Ovarian aging: pathophysiology and recent developments in maintaining ovarian reserve. Mana Hirano Front. Endocrinol., 02 October 2025
Numerous clinical studies have shown improved pregnancy outcomes and reduced oxidative stress through antioxidant therapies, such as coenzyme Q10, resveratrol, which enhance mitochondrial function, reduce ROS, and improve oocyte quality

2. The Role of Oxidative Stress and Natural Antioxidants in Ovarian Aging. Liuqing Yang. Front Pharmacol 2021 Ovarian health affects health at all stages of life and is a major determinant of women’s lifespan

3 Antioxidants and Fertility in Women with Ovarian Aging: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. Nutr 2024 A total of 20 randomized clinical trials with 2617 participants were included. The results showed that the use of antioxidants not only significantly increased the number of oocytes retrieved and the rates of high-quality embryos, but also reduced the dose of gonadotropin, contributing to higher clinical pregnancy rates.

4. Efficacy of natural products on premature ovarian failure: a systematic review and meta-analysis of preclinical studies Journal of Ovarian Research 2024 Natural products improve ovarian function in models of premature ovarian failure (POF) by increasing the number of follicles, increasing levels of key hormones, and reducing oxidative stress and cell death. A systematic review that analyzed 25 preclinical studies found that phytochemicals target specific cellular pathways to restore ovarian health.

5. Premature ovarian insufficiency: a review on the role of oxidative stress and the application of antioxidants

Front Endocrinol. 2023

Antioxidants are able to counteract the adverse effects of OS on the ovary and show good therapeutic effects in the prevention and treatment of POI.

6. Association of Coenzyme Q10 with Premature Ovarian Insufficiency

8. Natural products for treatment of premature ovarian failure: a narrative review
J Tradit Chin Med. 2023

Antioxidants are able to counteract the adverse effects of OS on the ovaries and show good therapeutic effects in the prevention and treatment of POI. We focus on investigating the mechanism of action of antioxidants, mesenchymal stem cells and bioenzymes against OS in POI. Therefore, studying the relationship between OS and POI will not only help us understand the mechanism of action, but will also provide new knowledge regarding the protection of the female reproductive system and infertility.
By studying the latest literature data, a multifunctional product was produced for the management of women with impaired ovarian function and ovarian aging. Mindphol is the supplement consisting of natural plant polyphenols.
